Education:
Dr. Tlebaev’s academic journey began in 1987 with a degree in Physics (taught in English) from the Kazakh State University named after S.M. Kirov. He enhanced his expertise through specialized internships in Russia, notably at the D.I. Mendeleev All-Russian Research Institute and the L.Ya. Karpov Institute, focusing on thermophysical measurements and radiation physics of polymers. Between 1994 and 1997, he pursued postgraduate studies at Abai University, and later completed doctoral studies at the Russian Chemical-Technological University in Moscow. He earned his Doctor of Sciences in Physics and Mathematics (specializing in condensed matter physics) from 2006 to 2009, with a dissertation focused on structural-phase transformations and radiation-thermal effects in polytetrafluoroethylene. His academic development was further enriched by an international internship at Imperial College London in 2011 through the prestigious Bolashak Program.
Experience:
Dr. Tlebaev has held a wide range of academic and administrative positions throughout his career. He began as a senior lab technician and engineer, later serving as a senior lecturer and associate professor at Abai University. Between 2009 and 2011, he was appointed associate professor in the Department of Theoretical and Experimental Physics, later becoming the Director of the Institute of Applied Physics and Mathematics. From 2016 to 2018, he chaired the Department of Physics, and has since continued his academic leadership as a full professor. In addition to his teaching, he has served on Kazakhstan’s National Scientific Council, influencing national science policy and guiding research in the humanities and fundamental sciences.
Research Interests:
His primary research interests include radiation physics of polymers, radiation-induced modification of materials, and the development of new composite systems. His studies focus on the effect of ionizing radiation—such as gamma rays and electron beams—on the thermal, mechanical, and optical properties of polymer-based materials. He has spearheaded projects that apply radiation technologies to develop high-performance materials for industrial and medical applications, often using electron accelerators and novel irradiation techniques.
Awards:
While formal award listings are not specified, Dr. Tlebaev’s selection as a Bolashak International Scholar and his role as a grant recipient under Kazakhstan’s Presidential Scholarship reflect his recognized excellence and contributions to science and education. His repeated appointments to leading roles within national research projects and councils are a testament to the trust placed in his scientific leadership and his impact on the academic community.
